I enjoyed your review, but I wish you had provided more detail on how you set up Roon and compared an optimal Audirvana configuration to an optimal Roon installation.

That would have put them on more even footing regarding sound quality. You were spot on about other differences. I also use a macbook for the core, streaming to a pi with a hat. Everything is just better and more focused with Audirvana.

I am open to most things mattering, but I find it to be strange if thats better. I get a suspicion Roon detects if it runs on their own hardward. Very interesting. If be interested to know how it compared to subsonic. Like you, I rely on Plex for movies. I hate Plex for music, as much as I love it for movies. Switched to subsonic a while back and love the file handling, interface, tag recognition.

Would audirvana be worth me spending money on…? Would be great but there are a lot of people still using Mac os As your website states you will no longer have 3.

Not to mention you went with a subscription model like ROON? Another bad move that will really turn away customers. You say it is because of constant updates to the software…Come on we all know that is just a load…People can download updates with no problem but to go this way is wrong because most people are against subscription model.

Just give the customer a choice to buy it or rent it from you. Another bad move. The features look good but you fell short. Go back to why you all became successful with the app.

High Sierra is 4 y old. I would be highly surprised if Lifetime will still be available on a years time leaving just an annual and monthly subscription ring any bells. Like it or not subscriptions are a thing of NOW , Tidal, Spotify, Deezer, Netflix , Amazon etc, fight it as you may the concept of a regular income stream to keep a company viable seems to me to be a viable model. After all I pay everything else in my life monthly Insurance, Rates, Mortgages, Water bills, Power bills why should by music software and streaming service be any different.

Every other company strives towards that. Ownership is a fast approaching thing of the past. Giving lifetime memberships for software is not really a good business model as the developers would prefer a steady income to constantly make improvements and make the user experience more rewarding. I will give Audirvana Studio a try and possibly pay for the first year to see how the developers respond to user feedback regarding software bugs etc. At the end of the day software will live and die according to developer support.

Just my opinion. The monthly payment model is part of your lifestyle, but not everyone is the same or agree with it. Tidal, Spotify, Deezer, Netflix and Amazon are music providers and can understandably charge for that. Room provides a curation service and a decent sound. Admittedly not perfect, but well presented, their case for subscription is less defensible. Most of their attempts at the rest have so far come across as half baked, or buggy, if always well meaning.

In another post I conjectured if it would not be wiser for Audirvana to license their sound expertise to one or several established streaming services. The user base would increase tremendously, allowing the licensing to be absorbed in the monthly subscription of the streaming service adopting the Audirvana module in its player. Bought 3. I subscribe to Qobuz for streaming. It looks cheezy as does the logo and is not well thought-out.

It feels like there is no real UI designer in that team. The website looks homemade as well.. M87 Apr 26 I bought Audirvana after a trial because of its really good sound quality.

But after using it for 5 months I have to say that it has become so slow that I cannot use it without swearing anymore. Every time you click into an album and then go back to the main list, you get the spinning wheel. When you scroll up and down the lists, you get the spinning wheel.

I mean c'mon guy at Audirvana, upon a little bit of googling, you see so many reports of people complaining about how SLOW your software is. Can't you just fix it? I am using the latest 3. I really can't recommend this product. On my Macbook, half the time I use it, the music doesn't connect to my amp or speakers, just plays through my computer. I haven't found any troubleshooting answers. There is no contact information on their website. What kind of company would not provide contact information to their customers???

What kind of people are these? The best I have heard on my Mac Air. Great together with the Dragonfly DAC! This is a great application if you want to hear your music in the best possible quality quality. I tried several others, but this one is the best and it also could stream your music to UPnP-devices, like the ultraRendu.

RunHomeSlow Oct 11 If you got ears, you gotta listen! If you want to use Audio Units with this, which is why I bought it many years ago and it ran flawlessly you can forget about it. It simply doesn't work with AU engaged. No sound. I figured it was a bug they'd sort out so I left it over a year before updating and they haven't fixed it. Check their support forum and you'll see its the same with everyone.

Strang realy, looking at the budget they must spend on interface, advertisement, hardware integration etc.

Damien may have done a fantastic job at developing the best music player on the market, but sadly, the software is plagued by usability issues and generally speaking, a mediocre user experience. A large portion of the UI in Audirvana studio is dedicated to streaming services that I am not interested in considering the poor quality of masters you are going to get on those services , but you still have to deal with a UI and monthly-based subscription model that forces you into the online steaming model.

I am sorry to say that for me to be willing to commit to a subscription-based model, the bar should be raised higher: — A decent permanent license software that works. Thanks for the review. I used the original Audirvana many years ago to get a benefit to the sound quality.

Many times the app on iOS will quit on iPhone. The other issue facing Roon right now is a poorly implemented Search. I am trying out Audirvana Studio today and am starting with using it directly connected to my laptop via USB. And the search was nearly instantaneous.

Thanks for the review! I also compared it to the Windows Media Player I had been using for my local library. Audirvana Studio integrates my three sources quite handily with the only a few problems that have been solved along the way. Thankfully I was able to do it while listening! Damien does support the software and a lot of help can be found on their forum for any problems someone might have. Count me as a contented subscriber. Companies do this all the time. Firstly, the rollout of Studio has been terrible. A freelance PR firm for a few bucks for a one time rollout could have offered some sage advice. How do you not have demos ready to go for the launch? Look how nice it looks! Hey, internet radio that your core and nobody else cares about! It will be interesting to see how many NEW people sign up.

Read your room a bit. Now this is just another one. Adobe, Pro Tools, Slate Audio, your phone, your car if you lease it, everything is a subscription now and we are being force fed more and more every day that everything is becoming a utility, not an item. We and older generations like to have stuff and own stuff and be able to sell stuff when we dont want it anymore or it starts piling up or better stuff comes along.

Younger people have adapted and many are fine with not owning or not wanting as much clutter as much as their parents did.

But it never feels like anything is yours. The subscription model has been successful for a lot of people. Audirvana has reached that point. So they have made, in my mind, a new product called Studio. It is fair to say that 3. Every setup, system and use is different. Hopefully Studio will be better, and especially hopefully, not worse.

I am a 50 year old, been a computer engineer most of my adult life. Operating systems always update features, security patches and updates. The amount of times I have seen operating system updates cause problems with outdated software… Audirvana have done a lot of incremental updates to fix these issues, CEO said they would support and not let down 3.

But also went onto say subscription better deal for customers because Damien found it hard to keep concentration what he was working on , and update software at same time.

CEO also said that it pushes us to keep software working, because customers have choice to stop subscription!! Not 3. A lot of people still have issues with streaming after a windows update 6 weeks ago! Damien updated with a incremental fix, Still lots of people logging calls having issues with streaming, including me, but have not had any fix!

I found and purchased Audirvana when Roon jacked their prices in an attempt to push users to their subscription model. Now, about a year later, I find myself staring down a very similar situation. Sure, I can continue to use what I have in theory and likely only for so long , but there will be no more updates.

Not really instilling me with much confidence that my Audirvana really seemed to be the solution for people that wanted to play their own music, not what happens to be made available on some streaming service.

Even with the best Source Control systems and an architecture that supports it , why should a company put time and effort into a product they are no longer selling i. Almost every piece of software these days has some sort of Annual bit to it, Audirvana is an anomaly. This is an annual payment by any other name.
